Out of Office
As featured in ALB's August 2017 Newsletter
Last month, The ALB Standard’s office went Italian, literally and figuratively. ALB was in Italy, but also, the office functioned the Italian way, aka it did not.
Disclaimer: ALB is taking a hit on the Italian culture because she loves it so.
After galavanting through Italy, one of ALB’s first stops upon her stateside return was to her acupuncturist, of course. She began to tell her acufairy that, despite her time off, she was feeling stressed and like she was operating at one billion; agitatedly running from one task to the next. Efficient, but a little much. It was like there was no middle ground between vacation status and high-functioning chaos.
Perspective was necessary, albeit, not easy to realize. At some times, more than others, we need a break (vacation, brief sojourn, staycation, et cetera). However, that does not mean resuming full-throttle upon return. Go easy on yourself, ease into the groove; everything will get done. You are more efficient when relaxed and in the zone than you are when firing in turbo. It often takes your own external perspective to understand your inner vibes.
Also, to be clear, taking a break does not mean absentmindedly lounging on the beach in Sardegna or Mykonos. Yes, lounge away, but let your mind settle into the relaxed state of reflection. Contrary to the aforementioned perspective, this happens naturally. During your first few days off, your brain is in pure vacation mode. Then, towards day four or five, it shifts into the reflective holiday mode. Have you noticed that as the novelty wears off, you zone in on creative ideas and become more attuned to your senses? Hone in on this.
While ALB certainly enjoyed her summer break, she was busier than ever working on The ALB Standard. No new content was published, but exciting new projects and creative insights have been planned. Stay tuned!
It is important to let your mind and body do what they need to do. Let them rest, let them rejuvenate, and let them run.
